Resumen/Abstract
Emerging trends in Information Technology are characterized by the ever increasing availability of data, in all forms and shapes, and the novel techniques being developed to transform the raw data into useful information and eventually into value. The computational requirements arising from Analytics on big-data point to the need for new processing functionality, to make more efficient the execution of conventional processing approaches and to enable the effective implementation of new approaches. One salient example is the emergence of Accelerators as a means to continue improving the performance and efficiency of computing infrastructures, to respond to the needs of the workloads. This seminar will provide an overview of the computational attributes of Analytics workloads and kernels, and illustrate examples of Acceleration techniques under research and development that address the new requirements. Emphasis is placed on acceleration of data movement and data management, in addition to computation.
Jaime H. Moreno
Jaime H. Moreno is Technology and Operations Manager, Computing as a Service, at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York. His organization performs research activities across the broad spectrum of technologies (systems, software, services) that constitute modern enterprise computing facilities. Previously, he was Senior Manager, Microprocessor Architecture, at the same institution. He joined the IBM Research Division in 1992, where he has performed research on a variety of microprocessor and system architecture and performance analysis topics addressing the full range of IBM processors and systems. In addition to multiple publications and co-authoring two books, Jaime holds 17 patents in processor architecture, and has been recognized as Master Inventor at IBM Research. Prior to IBM, he was a faculty member at the University of Concepcion, Chile. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from UCLA in 1989.
